Journey into Unschooling

April 28th, 2009 by becki

This morning we went to Wylde Green play barn with Maxine and the twins, and Tracey and Sam. In my honest opinion, the place is a pit! It’s full of chavvy kids with pierced ears (God, how much do I hate that. How can it be legal to mutilate your children???) not being watched over by obese mothers or childminders eating cream cakes! The children love it and as usual had a great time running round, throwing themselves down the slide with their mates and eating chocolate biscuits. How can I deny them that just because I hate the place? Besides I am too tired to go far today after H being up yet again. For some reason, despite sleeping through from 7-7 every night, Alfie is really tired too. He had a massive tantrum first thing this morning – a great start to the day! I think the excitement of the holiday has caught up with him now. He hardly ever has them now, yet at about 2 he had several massive ones a day. Holly has now started too – the joys of Big Feelings lol!

This afternoon we had a good time playing shops with Alfie’s new fake food bag and his till. The children were giggling their heads off taking turns to shout nonsense into the microphone on the till! We also did some Aquadrawing, cleaned the bath, sorted washing and made some bread. Despite the exhaustion and associated grumpiness, I have been feeling really positive about my parenting. Yes, we’re the weirdos, but we are the ones who are right!
