Journey into Unschooling

Rainy Sunday

November 1st, 2009 by becki

Today we had torrential rain. Coupled with another bad night (surprise surprise lol!), we decided to stay in. The day involved playing (with farm animals, jigsaws, towers and wooden food mainly!), cooking (Sunday lunch and bread and butter pudding), walking to the park to feed the ducks (Holly and Daddy), cleaning the bathroom, toilet and all the paintwork in the house (Alfie and I), watching DVDs, playing computer games, reading many many books, making up beds, lighting the pumpkins and lanterns (again!), making a potato print housewarming card for Matt, water colour painting and crayoning, sorting washing and doing an online shop!

Although I’m happy for Holly to still feed a few times a night we’ve come to the conclusion that the current 8-10 times is just not manageable. It causes relationship issues, bad moods, far from perfect parenting and is just not in anyone’s best interests. So last night I only fed her 4 or so times. The other times involved me saying no and having to cuddle her through her loud protests and attempts to rip my top off and an awful half hour of Rich trying to settle her in her bed whilst she screamed for me. It was so hard not to go in and feed her, but I know this has to change for all our sakes. She was being held and comforted by her daddy, not left to cry it out, and did tell him to get onto her bed with her and then settle to sleep happily in the end for another couple of hours. It is so hard though.
