Journey into Unschooling

Weekend

On Saturday the rain just went on and on! If you can’t beat it, join it eh, so we decided to go swimming :) We went to Stechford Cascades for the first time. The kids loved it, although Alfie wants to go when the main pool is also open next time as he couldn’t “swim properly”. It’s a series of pools on different levels with slides, fountains, jacuzzis etc. It was far far too crowded but the actual place was great so we’ll definitley go back (especially as it’s free LOL!) Probably on a Sunday next time which is families and adults only, thus hopefully eliminating the vileness of pre-pubescent gangs of boys fighting and splashing! Back home we did some chores, jigsaws, marble runs, Poisson Rouge, making of biscuits and getting down of maternity clothes from the loft ;)

Today we met Nanny and Grandad at New Hall Mill, just down the road. It’s a fantastic place to go on the open days. Not only is the water mill actually working, grinding flour, but the volunteers there are brilliant and the kids get to have a go at grinding corn and lifting the sacks with the sack hoist. Alfie nearly elevated himself to the ceiling trying to pull the sack up LOL! They also had 9 rats hidden around the mill for the kids to spot. Each had a different letter next to it which spelt a word, and Alfie got a wooden pencil sharpener as a prize :) There’s a lovely and very reasonable little tea room too :) Afterwards we had a picnic in New Hall country park, did a bit of food shopping then home to do some gardening – weeding and tying up the peas :)
