Journey into Unschooling

Quieter Times

Yesterday a much needed home day. We made blackcurrant muffins with the blackcurrants from the organic box last week, unpacked the new organic boxes, mopped the house, played the Hungry Caterpillar board game, weeded and fed the garden, dug out the unsuccessful broccoli patch and planted Chinese cabbage. Later I went to the midwife. I had protein in my urine but otherwise all is well :) My parenting was having a good day too LOL. I felt proud of how I managed many rather fraught situations, such as fighting, refusal to do necessary things, manic behaviour. Unconditional parenting in it’s better form for once!

Today was more fraught after very little sleep on all parts. I have to confess to a bit more shouting and irritability than I’d like and many more tantrums from the kids than anyone would like :-/ Still, overall a good one :-) We popped to Tesco then spent the day doing “calm” activities as much as possible. Alfie loved the Kerwhizz magazine we bought for him and completed the whole thing in one sitting. I was fairly impressed with it – a good mix of maths/literacy/fun stuff and not a reward chart or Well Done sticker in sight ;) We watched Madagascar, made smiley face pizzas, sorted some laundry, read and played. Now an early night methinks ;)
